Tournaments, leagues and cups in Vilnius 18

The Vilnius tournament year is built around a few long series. On Žalgirio gatvė, at Kamilės šachmatų studija, Vilniaus šachmatų klubas plays the city districts league in four Thursday stages from September to December, a seasonal rapid marathon, the city championship final on Sundays in autumn and the Variantas penktadieniui variant evenings. A company league of four-player teams plays rapid stages at member companies from October to April.

Summer brings the Vilnius Open to the Panorama hotel, and Lietuvos šachmatų mokykla runs its weekend blitz there. Universities keep their own events: an open blitz championship at Mykolo Romerio universitetas and a tournament of the mathematics and informatics days at Vilnius University. The Seimas holds a cup, the border guards play at Medininkai, the sports federation of the blind holds its championships on Žemaitės gatvė, and children’s cups are played at the WIDEN Arena near Riešė and at Antakalnio pradinė mokykla.
